Harlow judo club is a traditional club coached my black belt Mick Ellis at two dojo’s in Harlow.  The two are Stewards school and Katherine’s common room.  This is a very exciting time for Harlow (winter 05) as they are about to start operating from a third location, at the Sumner’s leisure centre, in conjunction with a local charity called

‘The Great Parndon Community Association (G.P.C.A.). The Katherine’ common room has been used for training since 1979.  It is hoped that with the addition of the third hall training for the competition players can improved by allocating a small section to a specific coach.  The small groups will be structured and well disciplined with the aim of a Harlow representative in London 2012

Harlow Judo club has a thriving junior section, which is very important to the survival of any club.  The juniors are split into under 8’s and 8 years and over, but under 16.  The 16’s and above being the adult section.

Harlow use the Kano system for the under 8 year old players.  This is a system of progress via instruction and many rewards in the form of badges and certificates, plus attendance awards given to players on a regular basis.  The emphasis is not on competitive training but more on quality instruction, giving a sound base to progress into the 8 years and over system (Mon grades)

The over 8’s are trained in the traditional methods of judo with 18 grades available. The competition element has once again recently been removed from the first six grades to make it a less barbaric start for the junior player.  Harlow is registered with the British Judo Association who are the official governing body for Judo in the U.K

Stebbing Judo Club

The Stebbing Judo Club started by Mick in November 2001 is now well established and plans are now in progress for the expansion of Stebbing to a second night.

Harlow coaches also run an after school club for Little Hallingbury school in Bishop's Stortford.
